Preschool sets the tone for a life-long love of learning. It is a truly magical opportunity for a child as they build social connections, emotional confidence and academic excitement. Here, at Park Avenue Methodist Day School (PAMDS), we pride ourselves on establishing this strong foundation by channeling a child’s inclination to explore and learn about their world: play. PAMDS embraces a ‘Playful Inquiry’ approach to curriculum design and child-centered experiences. Our highly trained educators construct a dynamic mix of activities using a variety of materials by carefully observing a child’s natural tendencies and wonderings in play-based activities. The students’ questions and discoveries are artfully documented and turned back to them to create rich projects where they create their own theories about the world and share this knowledge with the community.
These ‘Cycles of Inquiry’ incorporate math, science, literacy, drama, movement, music and visual art. We are sure to integrate and strengthen all the skills needed for a child to build their independence and successfully transition to an ongoing school. We listen to what each child has to say and treat each child as an individual. We praise the child’s process of discovery and encourage them to take risks. We support children to be respectful, active, excited, autonomous, curious and courageous learners.
We are seeking families who take an active role in their child’s life and firmly believe that play is a child’s work. PAMDS understands that a quality school relationship puts the child and the family at the center of our mission. We look forward to partnering with you throughout your time with us.
Play is the highest form of research.
